Who else an estate usually needs

A probate attorney

Files the petition, handles notices and the accounting, and answers to the court. Fees are statutory and paid from the estate at the end. I can introduce you to attorneys in Orange County who do this every day and return calls.

A CPA who handles estates

For the decedent's final return, the estate's fiduciary return, and basis questions. Worth a one-hour consultation even for simple estates.

An estate sale company

Sells the contents on site for a share of proceeds. Most will do a free walkthrough and tell you if there is enough to hold a sale.

A clean-out and hauling service

For whatever an estate sale and donations do not take. Ask for a flat quote after a walkthrough.

A locksmith and a handyman

Re-key the house early. Fix safety items before anyone walks through.
